Third-party giving is for gifts one party makes on behalf of another. For example, the White Family Trust gives $5,000 on behalf of John White. The money comes from the Trust, but you also want to recognize John White. Argenta lets you record both sides in a single, linked pair of donations.

First, flag the giver as a third-party giver

The party actually giving the money (the Trust, in our example) has to be a donor in Argenta and marked as a third-party giver. Open that donor's record and, on the Donor Details page, set Is this donor a third-party giver? to Yes, then save. Only donors flagged this way appear in the platform list in the next step. Enter the donation for the person it honors

Choose Fundraising > Donations and click Add New to open the Fiscal Donation Workspace. On Donation Details, enter the gift as if it were coming from the donor of record, the person it is being made on behalf of (John White): select that donor, then fill in the donation date, the full amount, and anything else you track. Turn on 3rd Party Giving

Still on Donation Details, switch on 3rd Party Giving. A required 3rd Party Giving Platform dropdown appears; pick the giver you flagged in step one (the Trust). Click Save All & Continue.

What Argenta creates

On save, Argenta splits the entry into two linked records:

• A platform-side record credited to the third-party giver (the Trust). This record carries the full amount and, if you turned on the general journal, posts the money to your books.
• A zero-dollar record on the donor of record (John White). This record recognizes them for the gift without counting the money twice.

The two records are linked. Open either one and use the View Donation From button to jump to its partner. One thing to note: because the zero-dollar record holds no amount, Argenta will not auto-generate a receipt from it; send the receipt from the platform-side record instead.
