Does Argenta Support Soft Credits?

Yes. Every donation can carry one soft credit, so you can record who influenced or facilitated a gift alongside the donor who actually made it.

Adding a soft credit

  1. Go to Fundraising > Donations and open the donation.
  2. On Donation Details, find Soft Credit Constituent.

  3. Start typing the person's name and pick them from the list.
  4. Save the donation.

If the person is not in Argenta yet, use the add button beside the field to create them without leaving the donation. Once someone is selected you can jump straight to their record, or clear the field to remove the soft credit. On a donation you can only view, the field is read only.

One soft credit per donation

The field holds a single constituent. If more than one person deserves recognition for the same gift, record the others in a note on the donation.

Where the soft credit appears

It lives on the donation record itself, on Donation Details, and that is where you read it back. It is not added to the soft credit constituent's giving history, and no report totals or filters on it, so build recognition lists and giving societies from the donor on the gift rather than from soft credits. Merging two constituents carries any soft credits across to the surviving record.

Your financial totals are unaffected

A soft credit records recognition, not money. A $1,000 gift with a soft credit on it is still $1,000 of revenue, counted once under the donor who gave it.

Tax receipts

A receipt goes to the donor who made the gift, since that is the person who gave. A soft credit is for your own recognition and does not change who the gift is receipted to.
