Argenta Chatter
Argenta Chatter is real-time team messaging built right into Argenta. Use it to talk with your team in channels, send private direct messages, react, reply in threads, share files, set your status, and even ask AVA for help, all without leaving the platform.
Getting to Chatter
Open Chatter from the left navigation menu. The screen has a left sidebar (your channels and people) and a main area (the conversation you are viewing).
Channels
- Create a channel: click the plus sign next to CHANNELS, give it a name and an optional description.
- Public vs private: a hashtag icon marks a public channel everyone on the team can see; a lock icon marks a private channel only invited members can see.
- General: every team starts with a team-wide #general channel.
Direct messages and group messages
Click any teammate under DIRECT MESSAGES to start a private one-on-one conversation. Use the plus sign next to DIRECT MESSAGES to start a group message with several people at once.
Sending a message
- Type in the box at the bottom and press Enter to send.
- Press Shift + Enter to add a line break without sending.
- Click the smiley next to the paperclip to drop an emoji into your message.
Reactions
Hover over a message and click the smiley to react to it. There is a full set of everyday emojis plus all the standard heart colors. Click an existing reaction to add or remove your own.
Threads
Keep side conversations tidy with threads. Hover a message and click the reply icon, or click the replies link beneath it, to open a thread panel on the right. Replies live inside the thread instead of the main channel, and the original message shows a short "3 replies" link. As in the main chat, Enter sends a reply and Shift + Enter adds a line break.
Mentions
Type @ and pick a name to mention someone. Their mention appears in green, and the person you mentioned is notified (see Notifications below).
Notifications
Chatter notifies you only for the things that need your attention: @mentions and direct messages. Regular channel chatter does not ping anyone.
- If Chatter is open but you are looking at another tab or a different channel, you get a browser pop-up.
- If you are fully out of Chatter, you get an email instead.
- A badge on the Chatter menu item shows unread mentions.
Mute a channel
If a channel gets noisy, open it and click the bell in the top right to mute it. While it is muted you can still read everything, but you will not get pop-ups or emails from it. Muted channels show a bell-with-a-slash marker in the sidebar. Click the bell again to unmute. Muting only affects you, not anyone else.
Saved messages
Hover any message and click the bookmark icon to save it. Open Saved at the top of the sidebar to see everything you have saved across every channel, and click any item to jump straight to that message. Use the trash icon on a saved item to remove it from the list.
Search
Use the search box in the channel header (just left of the pin) to find messages across your channels. Click a result to jump to that message in its conversation.
Pinned messages
Hover a message and click the pin icon to pin important messages in a channel. Open the pinned panel from the channel header to see everything pinned and jump to any of it.
Files and images
Click the paperclip to attach a file or image. Images appear inline in the conversation; other files appear as a download link.
Your profile
Open the menu under your name at the top of the sidebar and choose Update My Profile. From there you can:
- Upload or replace your photo.
- Set a Chatter Display Name that shows instead of your full name.
- Add a Title or short description of who you are.
Your full name comes from your Argenta record. Clicking anyone's avatar or name opens their profile card, with a Message button to start a direct message with them.
Status and presence
A colored dot shows whether a teammate is online (green), away (amber), or offline (gray). Open the menu under your name to set yourself Active or Away, pick a status emoji that fits what you are doing (coffee break, lunch, working from home, heads-down, in meetings, on a call, commuting, traveling, on vacation, out sick, and more), and add a short status message.
Ask AVA in a channel
Type @ava in any channel to ask the AI assistant a question right inside the conversation. AVA's answer posts back into the channel so the whole team can see it.
View-only users
A view-only user can read every conversation but cannot post, react, or change anything. In place of the message box they see a clear view-only notice.
Who can do what (permissions)
Master admins can delete any message, delete any channel, and add or remove members on any private or group channel. Everyone else can create channels, post, react, pin, save, and edit or delete their own messages, plus manage the members of channels they created.
