What Is a Fiscal Year?

A fiscal year is a 12-month period used for financial reporting that may not match the calendar year. Common fiscal years:

  • July 1 - June 30 (common for educational organizations)
  • October 1 - September 30 (common for government)
  • January 1 - December 31 (calendar year)

Configuring Your Fiscal Year

  1. Go to Admin or System Settings
  2. Find Fiscal Year Settings
  3. Set your fiscal year start month
  4. Save the configuration

How Fiscal Year Affects Donations

When viewing donation reports:

  • "Year-to-Date" reflects the current fiscal year
  • Fiscal year totals appear on donor records
  • Annual giving levels use fiscal year boundaries
  • Year-end statements can be fiscal or calendar based
