Types of Relationships
Common relationship types include:
- Family: Spouse, child, parent, sibling
- Business: Employer, employee, colleague, business partner
- Professional: Attorney, accountant, financial advisor
- Social: Friend, neighbor, referred by
- Organizational: Board member of, donor to, volunteer for
Adding a Relationship
- Open the constituent record
- Find the Relationships section or tab
- Click Add Relationship
- Search for and select the related constituent
- Select the relationship type (e.g., Spouse)
- The reciprocal relationship is typically created automatically
- Save
Household Relationships
For family members at the same address:
- Create a Household constituent type
- Link individual family members to the household
- Manage household-level communications and gifts
Using Relationship Data
- Solicitation: Ask connected donors to introduce friends
- Stewardship: Acknowledge family members appropriately
- Research: Identify wealth indicators through professional connections
- Events: Invite related constituents together
Relationship Notes
Add notes to relationships to document context that may not be obvious from the relationship type alone.
