What is a Recurring Donation?

A recurring donation is a gift that repeats automatically:

  • Monthly sustainer gifts
  • Quarterly or annual recurring gifts
  • Automatic credit card or bank drafts

Setting Up a Recurring Gift

  1. Navigate to Fundraising > Recurring Donations
  2. Click Add New
  3. Select the donor
  4. Enter recurring details:
    • Amount: Gift amount per occurrence
    • Frequency: Monthly, quarterly, annually
    • Start Date: When recurring begins
    • End Date: When to stop (or leave open)
    • Payment Method: How it will be processed
  5. Assign to fund and campaign
  6. Save

Processing Recurring Gifts

Depending on your payment processor integration:

  • Automatic: Processor charges and records automatically
  • Manual: You enter each gift as it processes

Managing Recurring Donors

  • Update Amount: Donors may increase or decrease
  • Update Payment Method: New card or bank info
  • Pause: Temporarily suspend
  • Cancel: End the recurring gift

Retention

Monitor recurring donations for:

  • Failed payments (card declined)
  • Expiring cards
  • Cancellation requests
