Classification Codes, Working with Donation Inventory Item Categories

Return To The Knowledge Base

If your nonprofit accepts material donations, you can keep an inventory of these items in Argenta. Items in inventory can be categorized using Donation Inventory Item Categories, considered a classification code. Argenta comes loaded with common inventory item categories to help you get started, but you can change them at any time. You can add or delete any inventory item category by selecting Donation Management > Donation Inventory Item Categories from the Argenta main menu on the left hand side of the screen.

View The Total Number of Records

Above every list is a pink label that displays the total of all items currently displayed in the list. This is a quick and easy way to count list items.

Search The List

All classification code lists can be searched by the code's title. Enter the title of the code you are looking for into the search field to search the list.

Export The List To Excel

Argenta contains many reports, charts, graphs and statements, but it may be necessary to manipulate your own data. You can work with your data anyway you want by exporting it to Excel. Every List in Argenta has an "Export List To Excel" button above the list. Clicking the button exports the data currently displayed in the list to Microsoft Excel. If you have filtered the data by specific criteria, only the result set will be exported.

To Add A Donation Inventory Item Category

Click the "Add An Item Category" button above the list.

The "Add A Donation Inventory Item Category" window will come up...

Add Classification Codes in Argenta

Type a name for your item category and click the "Add This Donation Item Category" button.

The window will close and the new item category will display in the list.

To Remove A Donation Inventory Item Category

In the item category list, click the corresponding "Delete" button to remove the item category from Argenta. Donation inventory item categories that are already in use cannot be deleted. You will receive an alert indicating that you cannot delete the grant type because it has been used to classify a donation inventory item. If you still want to delete it you can find the item associated with it by filtering the donation inventory item list, reclassifying all associated items, then trying again to delete the item category.
